Hall Thermotank Marine Systems

Marine division enhances reputation

J & E Hall’s fine tradition of high levels of engineering and support in marine systems continues to be upheld. The company has been pioneering the development and application of refrigeration technologies in this area since the late 19th century.

Through the dedicated offices of Hall Thermotank Marine Systems, based in Glasgow (UK), the company procures, supplies and installs complete refrigeration and air conditioning systems for ships built in the UK and abroad.

Hall Thermotank Marine Systems has equipped many world famous passenger, merchant and naval vessels with refrigeration and air conditioning plant, including the new Queen Mary passenger liner.

Marine Systems is currently working on installing air conditioning equipment and chilled water refrigerating plant for five Fast Attack Craft for the Hellenic (Greek) Navy. The chillers have been designed and built by Hall Thermotank to withstand shocks of up to 30g. The division also carries out refits on a regular basis for Ministry of Defence vessels.

Work is continuing on Globalisation packages for various Royal Navy craft. This ensures that the ship’s HVACR system maintains a comfortable internal environment, whilst also providing enough cooling energy to facilitate full functionality of high heat emitting electronic equipment, when the vessel is deployed in areas of extreme temperature.

Hall Thermotank Marine Systems are fitting other Royal Navy vessels with textile ductwork – replacing the conventional metal variety. Contract work is also being carried out for the Pakistan and Chilean Navies.
